| Beginning with our former senior minister, Gordon Dragt, Middle has been a safe haven for artists to come just as they are and to use their gifts in worship.
This year, even more artists are doing more art, and the non-artist is used in worship and education as well. We are asking questions like, how does performance art “story” protest? How does art serve as a witness in social justice issues? How are the arts used in education for children and adults?
We celebrate the arts at Middle Church and each Sunday morning, a puppet show, a jazz quintet, a dance company, or a dramatic piece will join our two excellent choirs to make a joyful tribute to what God is doing in the world.
Our current senior minister for Vision, Worship and the Arts is a singer, choral arranger and actress. She loves to enable other people to do their art, and to collaborate and create new ways of using art in worship. She teaches courses in the arts in worship and the use of the arts in the development of multi-racial, multicultural churches.
The Arts Ministry Team at Middle joins Jacqui in planning and executing creative, artistic worship. This group of artists also takes art into the community and supports one another as they pursue their craft. |
