LGBTI Community
Our community is open to all, regardless of sexuality or gender identity. We remain committed to changing the dialogue around sexuality and faith with our denomination and others. We also have a group called RISE, as well as offer many events and activities to help us grow our faith.
Read the Middle Collegiate Church Marriage Equality Resolution.
RISE
RISE is a community of people in ministry with and to the LGBTI community of Middle Church and beyond. RISE was created as a ministry of Middle Church so that specific issues facing the LGBTI community could be addressed within Middles' faith community. Check the Calendar for information on upcoming events. For more information, please contact Trish Sheffield.
New Alternatives
Twice a week, Middle Church plays host to New Alternatives for LGBTI Homeless Youth, a program created in October, 2008 by a group of volunteers and professionals with experience working with homeless LGBT youth in various shelter and transitional housing settings. The mission of the organization is to increase the self-sufficiency of homeless LGBT youth to enable them to "go beyond" the shelter system. We intend to do this by providing case management, community organizing, life skills groups, community-building recreational activities, and, in the long-term, supported employment opportunities. Our guiding principles are those of harm reduction, youth development, and empowerment.
Sunday evenings at 7PM:
Weekly dinner followed by a Life Skills Workshop.
Tuesday evenings from 5PM to 9PM:
Case management clinic that assists youth with a variety of issues, including name changes, identification, benefits, resumes, and legal problems, as well as general counseling.
For more information, check out their website.
